He became a fairly acclaimed freelance food critic and journalist by his early thirties, travelling around Britain and France, and about eight years ago moved to the States. He recently purchased a house in New Orleans as his home base, but works all over the country (though mainly in the Southeast) doing freelance articles and restaurant reviews for Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines and various newspapers.
